Soc Son Waste-to-Energy Plant (located at the Nam Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex, Soc Son District) is managed and operated by Thien Y Hanoi Environmental Energy Joint Stock Company, and features 5 waste incinerators with a daily reception and treatment capacity of approximately 5,000 tons of waste, and a power generation capacity of 90 MW. The plant has made a significant contribution to municipal solid waste treatment, reducing environmental pollution, and converting waste into electricity to serve the socio-economic development of the Capital.
The Soc Son Waste-to-Energy Plant project commenced construction in August 2019 and entered operation in 2022; it officially connected to the national power grid on 25/07/2022. This is the second largest project of its kind in the world, with a total investment exceeding USD 320 million.
Up to now, Soc Son Waste-to-Energy Plant has been put into stable operation, phase 1 and 2 (including 5 incinerators with a capacity of burning 4,000 tons of waste/day, receiving capacity of 5,000 tons/day, 2 generators with a power generation capacity of about 60 MW, treating wastewater, exhaust gas and ash to meet the highest standards of Vietnam and EU 2010.
Phase 3 has completed trial operation, ready to increase the total power generation capacity of the entire Plant to 90 MW immediately after the plan to implement Power Plan VIII is approved.
The waste treatment process is carried out in a closed and safe manner from the steps of receiving waste, storing it in a waste tank to mixing and drying it before putting it into the incinerator, the heat obtained when burning waste is used to generate electricity and then transmitted to the national power system to serve socio-economic development.
The operation of Soc Son Waste-to-Energy Plant has contributed to helping the capital Hanoi The city is gradually achieving the goal of reducing the amount of landfill waste according to the goal of developing a green - clean - beautiful - modern and civilized capital.
According to the report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Hanoi is generating 6,500 - 7,000 tons of waste per day, the common treatment method applied is landfill. Environmental problems arise when landfills such as Nam Son and Xuan Son are no longer able to receive waste, posing many potential risks of environmental incidents. In this situation, thanks to the operation of the Soc Son Waste-to-Energy Plant, 70% of the amount of waste generated daily in Hanoi has been effectively treated, and Hanoi's environmental problems are gradually being positively improved.
In addition, burning waste to generate electricity also helps save and effectively use land resources. At landfill sites, the soil there takes hundreds of years to be reused, and people in the area around the landfill are also heavily affected by air pollution, water pollution, and water. On the other hand, the waste-to-energy project will create jobs for people; contributing to solving the employment problem for local workers.
Continuing to inherit those successes, recently, Thien Y Ha Noi Environmental Energy Joint Stock Company has proposed to add 2 more incinerators with the same capacity as the 5 in operation (800 tons/incinerator/day), increasing the number of incinerators at the factory to 7 to handle the amount of waste previously buried at Nam Son landfill. This proposal has received support from the city on increasing capacity without expanding the area, completely solving the problem of environmental re-pollution and effectively using land resources. The company is in need of supplementing complete documents, working with the city's departments and branches to ensure legal factors.
From the correct orientations of the Board of Directors and the joint efforts and consensus of the Company's employees, it is expected that in the coming time, Thien Y Ha Noi Environmental Energy Joint Stock Company will continue to develop production and business. business, enhance the brand and maintain the position as a leading enterprise; pioneering creativity and innovation in environmental protection activities.
