The Liberia Biomass Power Plant Project, invested by Atlantic Energy and Mining Joint Stock Company, is designed to provide electricity for the operation of titan ore mines in the region, replacing traditional diesel generators to reduce fuel costs and minimize environmental pollution. The project also aims to efficiently utilize locally available agricultural and forestry by-products, using sustainable biomass fuel sources and advanced direct combustion technology.
Liberia Biomass Power Plant shall be located near Gro Town, Sinoe province, Greenville Central, Liberia, approximately 250 kilometers northeast of Monrovia, the capital city. The total land use and water surface area of the project cover approximately 2 hectares (2ha). According to survey results, the electricity demand for a single titan mine is estimated at around 1,200 kW. In line with the regional power needs, fuel availability, and site conditions, a 1.5 MW biomass power plant is planned to be commissioned in 2025.
The project implementation schedule is as follows:
- Investment preparation phase: 12/2024 – 01/2025
- EPC implementation phase: 02/2025 – 12/2025
- Commercial Operation Date (COD): 31/12/2025
The main fuel for the plant includes:
- Chopped wood from planted forests (within a transport radius of 10 km);
- Potential expansion to other locally sourced by-products such as straw, coconut leaves, and similar biomass materials.
